According to Sheriff Robert Maciol, On 05/23/2021 at approximately 5:00 AM, Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies responded to the Oneida County Jail after receiving a tip that a food service worker was transporting contraband into the Oneida County Jail.

During the initial investigation, the food service worker who was identified as Shawn M. Stevens, 41 of Lowville, NY was found to have in his possession a bundle of items. The bundle was processed by the Forensic Investigation Unit and identified as several packets containing heroin, a hypodermic needle and spoon, multiple Suboxone strips and tablets, marijuana, and match boxes.

The Criminal Investigation Unit and Narcotics Unit conducted a further investigation and arrested Stevens on one count of Criminal Possession of a controlled substance in the third degree with intent to sell, a class B Felony and Promoting Prison contraband in the first degree a class D felony. Stevens was processed at the LEB and is being held at the Oneida County Jail awaiting arraignment at the Oneida County CAP court.

The investigation is ongoing.
