According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Derrick O'Meara, who is the Director of the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, a Utica woman has been arrested for having inappropriate contact with an underage female child.

The investigation began in April of 2021 when the CAC received an allegation that Kiara Mitchell, age 22, had inappropriate sexual contact with a 15-year-old female child. The case was assigned to Sheriff’s Investigator Mark R. Chrysler.

Investigator Chrysler’s investigation revealed that the abuse occurred in the beginning of April of 2021.

On June 3, 2021, Investigator Chrysler, and Sheriff’s Investigator Ryan Marshall, were able to locate Mitchell at a residence in Utica where she was taken in to custody without incident.

Mitchell was transported to the Sheriff’s Office and charged with one count of Sexual Abuse in the 3rd Degree, a Class B Misdemeanor, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Class A Misdemeanor. After processing, Mitchell was arraigned at Central Arraignment court and released.

An order of protection was issued on behalf of the child, and the victim has been offered services through the CAC.
