According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on June 12, 2021, at about 2:10 pm, patrol deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident on Sangerhill Road, Town of Sangerfield.

Robert Gillette, 72, of Oriskany Falls, was operating a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado and was traveling westbound on Sangerhill Road when he struck a tree on the south shoulder of the road. Gillette was treated on scene by Waterville Fire Department and transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth's Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Gillette was the only occupant of the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the collision.

During the investigation, Sangerhill Road was temporarily closed but has since been opened.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the New York State Police.
