According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, On June 21st, 2021, at approximately 1938 hours, Deputies along with State Troopers responded to a single Motor Vehicle Rollover Accident on State Route 5 in the Town of Westmoreland.

While on scene, it was determined that Jack H. Pylman (73) of Utica was operating his 1995 GMC Sierra pickup truck westbound on State Route 5. An unknown factor caused Mr. Pylman's vehicle to leave the northern shoulder of the roadway causing his vehicle to collide, head-on, into a utility pole which subsequently caused his vehicle to begin to rollover. According to witnesses, the pickup truck also immediately caught on fire as it rolled over. Bystanders assisted Mr. Pylman out of his vehicle where he was transported via Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance to St. Elizabeth's Hospital. Mr. Pylman was transferred from St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Utica to SUNY Up State Medical in Syracuse due to his injuries. Mr. Pylman was listed in critical condition and suffered severe burns to his upper torso and facial area. State Route 5 was temporarily shut down for the investigation process.

Deputies on scene were assisted by Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance, NY State Police, Town of Kirkland Police, and Westmoreland Fire Department. National Grid and representatives from the New York State Department of Transportation also responded and assisted on scene.

At this time the investigation is still ongoing.
