According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Derrick O'Meara, who is the Director of the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, a Sangerfield man has been arrested for having sexual contact with an underage female child.

The investigation began on June 26, 2021, when Sheriff’s Patrol received a complaint alleging that 38 year old Shawn Lyon had sexual contact with a 15 year old female child. Patrol then forwarded the case to the Child Advocacy Center where it was assigned to Sheriff’s Investigator Mark R. Chrysler.

Investigator Chrysler’s investigation revealed that the sexual interactions began in April of 2021 and ended in May.

On July 13, 2021, Investigator Chrysler, and Sheriff’s Investigator Nicholas Dean, were able to locate Lyon at his residence in Sangerfield where he was taken in to custody without incident.

Lyon was transported to the Sheriff’s Office and charged with one count of Rape in the 3rd Degree, a Class E felony. After processing, Lyon was arraigned at Central Arraignment court and held on $2,000 cash bail, $6,000 Bond.

An order of protection was issued on behalf of the child, and the victim has been offered services through the CAC.
