According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, On Tuesday, August 3rd, 2021 at approximately 4:35 P.M. Road Patrol Deputies responded to Route 274 in the Town of Steuben for a reported serious personal injury motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, Deputies determined that Eric E. Schwarzmueller, 21, of Remsen, was operating a 2014 Infinite eastbound on State Route 274. Eric unexpectedly went off of the roadway and struck a ditch in the northern shoulder which subsequently made the car go airborne. The car then struck a tree with the top portion of the vehicle and came to a complete stop. Eric was entrapped in the vehicle which took fire personnel some time to remove him.

Due to Eric’s severe injuries, he was flown out by Mercy flight to SUNY Upstate Medical University for further evaluation. Deputies were assisted on scene by Western Fire Department, Star Ambulance, and Mercy Flight. ​
