According to Sheriff Robert Maciol, one person was injured in a two car MVA that occurred at about 2:52 PM at the intersection of West Liberty St. and North Levitt St. in the City of Rome. According to the Sheriff, a Deputy in a marked patrol unit attempted to stop a 2003 Toyota Rav 4 that was traveling east bound on Erie Blvd. The vehicle initially began to slow and pulled into Lowes, as if the operator was stopping for the marked patrol vehicle. The vehicle then sped away and turned onto West Liberty St. from the Lowes parking lot. Moments later the vehicle ran a stop sign at the intersection of W. Liberty and N. Levitt St. and struck a 2014 Chevy Cruz being operated by Tiffany Marineau, age 25 of Rome. Marineau was treated at the scene for minor injuries and was transported by AmCare Ambulance to Rome Memorial Hospital for further evaluation. The driver of the vehicle that struck Marineau fled the scene on foot and has not been located. Sheriff's Deputies were assisted at the scene by Rome Police and Fire as well as the New York State Police. The investigation is pending identification of the driver.
