According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on September 29, 2021, at approximately 12:00 PM an altercation occurred involving multiple students at the Madison-Oneida BOCES located at 4937 Spring Rd in the Town of Verona. The school resource officer from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office assigned to Madison-Oneida BOCES responded to this incident.

While the Deputy was investigating this incident he was advised of another altercation involving several more students and a parent. The school resource officer immediately responded to this incident and initiated a separate investigation. It was later alleged after the parties were dispersed, that the involved parent was in possession of a handgun during the altercation.

Upon learning of the allegation the Oneida County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Unit responded to investigate the matter further. At this time the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office is still working to determine if there was in fact a handgun on the school campus. There appears to be no imminent threat to any students or school members. The investigation is still ongoing.
