According to Sheriff Robert Maciol, on Saturday, October 30, at about 9:20 PM, a deputy was assisting a disabled motorist on State Route 49 in the Town of Marcy. While the deputy was standing outside of their patrol car, a 2012 white Chevy Impala, being operated by 41-year-old Logan R. Newman of Utica, struck the deputy's patrol car before continuing West towards the Town of Floyd. A deputy assigned to the Sheriff's Office DWI Unit was in the area at the time and located Newman's vehicle traveling on Route 49 in the Town of Floyd. A traffic stop was initiated, and an investigation into the incident determined Newman was operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated at the time of the accident. Newman was arrested for DWI and issued tickets returnable to both Marcy and Floyd Town Courts at a later date.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted on the scene by members of the Rome Police Department and the New York State Police.
