Vernon Man Arrested after Domestic Dispute

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol Sheriff’s deputies were called to Simmons Road in the Town of Vernon at about 2:30 AM on 10/31/21. Once on scene, it was determined that a Steven G. Burton, 42, of Vernon was intoxicated and had a domestic dispute at his residence with members of his family. During the dispute, he demanded the keys to a vehicle, and when they were not given to him he threatened to burn the residence down. At that point, Burton was on the exterior of the residence and attempted to light the residence on fire with a lighter. Burn marks were noticed on a window screen on the exterior of the residence.

Burton was taken into custody after a brief struggle with Deputies and then transported to the Sheriff’s Office for processing. Burton was charged with Attempted Arson in the Second Degree which is a Class C Felony and is currently awaiting arraignment at CAP Court Centralized Arraignment for that charge. An order of protection has been requested on behalf of the family members.
