According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert Maciol; On December 1, 2021, at about 0243 PM, Deputies responded to State Route 365 at Sconondoa Rd in the Town of Verona for a reported two car personal injury motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, Deputies determined that Teresa Deraway (50), of Rome, NY, was operating a grey 2001 Toyota Camry eastbound on Route 365 and failed to signal a left-hand turn before attempting to make a left hand turn onto Sconondoa Rd. Due to failure to yield the right of way and improper turn, Deraway’s vehicle turned in front of westbound traffic and was struck head-on by a green 2002 Ford F250, operated by Joseph Yates (51) of Earlville, NY, causing heavy damage. Deraway’s vehicle then struck a guide rail before coming to rest facing eastbound, while Yates vehicle came to rest facing West on Sconondoa Rd.

Deraway was transported by Vineall Ambulance to Oneida City Hospital for head and back pain. Yates was treated and released on scene for chest and shoulder pain. Deraway was issued citations for “Failure To Yield The Right Of Way On A Left Turn” and “Unsafe Turn Without Signal” returnable to Verona Town Court at a later date.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by Verona Fire Department, Vineall Ambulance, and the New York State Police.
