According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert Maciol; On December 7, 2021, at about 544 PM, Deputies responded to State Route 26 near Lowell Rd in the Town of Westmoreland for a reported one car personal injury motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, Deputies determined that Elizabeth Slocum (21), of Oriskany Falls, NY, was operating a black 2004 Jeep North on Route 26. Slocum attempted to pass another vehicle but due to unsafe speed and improper passing, Slocum was unable to pass the vehicle and attempted to re-enter the northbound lane of traffic from the southbound lane losing control of her vehicle. Slocum’s vehicle then spun around facing southbound crossing the center double solid lines and exited the West shoulder of the roadway backwards. Slocum’s vehicle struck two mailboxes before striking (3) pedestrians who were crossing their yard, then struck a camper parked in the yard before coming to rest with heavy damage.

The (3) pedestrians, John Pearson (51) of Rome, NY, Lisa Pearson (53) of Rome, NY, and a 10 year old female whose name will not be released due to her age were transported to St Elizabeth Hospital for injuries sustained due to the accident. Slocum was issued citations for “Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent,” “Failure To Keep Right,” “Driving To The Left Of Pavement Markings In a No Passing Zone,” and “Operating Without Insurance” returnable to Westmoreland Town Court at a later date.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by Westmoreland Fire Department, COCVAC Ambulance, Vineall Ambulance, the New York State Police, and Rocker’s Automotive Rescue.
