According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert Maciol, on the morning of Friday, January 14, 2022, members of the Sheriff’s Office Warrants Unit along with members of the U.S. Marshal’s New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force executed an arrest warrant in the Town of Verona.

Robert P. Nelson (32) of Verona was taken into custody on the outstanding charge of Assault in the 2nd degree (D Felony) along with a bench warrant for Resisting Arrest (A misdemeanor) and Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd degree (A misdemeanor). These charges stemmed from an investigation that took place on Christmas Eve of 2021 when Deputies attempted to take Nelson into custody for two separate outstanding warrants from another police agency. While Deputies attempted to take Nelson into custody on Christmas Eve, Nelson’s actions of resisting arrest resulted in a Sheriff’s Deputy being injured.

The Warrants Unit then transport Nelson to Oneida County Jail where he was arraigned in Centralized Arraignment Part (CAP) Court and held on NO BAIL.
