Update to Motor Vehicle Accident Involving an Amish Buggy

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, the driver of the vehicle that left the scene of the accident involving an Amish Buggy has been identified as Shaun McKerrow of Poland.

McKerrow was issued a traffic ticket for leaving the scene of a property damage automobile accident, regarding this incident, made returnable to Marcy Town Court at a later date.

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol; On January 18, 2022, at about 2:34 pm, Deputies responded to Route 12 in the Town of Marcy for a reported Personal Injury motor vehicle accident involving an Amish buggy.

Upon arrival, Deputies determined that Sammy S. Hershberger (47)of Poland, NY, was operating an Amish buggy on Route 12 who was struck by a Black Ford sedan that fled the scene. Sammy did not sustain any injuries but was evaluated on scene by Kunkel ambulance. The horse suffered neck and leg injuries and was transported to the owner's residence to be evaluated.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by Deerfield Fire Department, Kunkel Ambulance, and the New York State Police.
