According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on 03/01/2022, at approximately 09:05 PM, an adult male sustained minor injuries after a personal injury motor vehicle accident that occurred on State Route 26, in the City of Rome.

Zachariah Mekete, 22, of Syracuse, was driving a 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander, traveling eastbound on State Route 26, in the City of Rome, when his speed was not reasonable and prudent for the icy conditions, caused Zachariah’s vehicle to strike a guide rail. After Zachariah’s vehicle stuck the guide rail he continued to lose control of the vehicle until it struck a ditch on the shoulder of the roadway. Zachariah suffered minor injuries, and was transported by Amcare Ambulance to Rome Memorial Hospital. Zachariah was cited for speed not reasonable and prudent for the conditions, and issued a traffic summons returnable to Rome City Court at an upcoming date.
