Corrections Officer – Full and Part Time

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

This position exists in the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office and involves responsibility on an assigned shift for the enforcement of rules and regulations governing security, conduct, discipline, safety and general well-being of inmates of the County correction facility. The incumbent performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must meet the minimum qualification at time of application. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license at time of appointment. License must remain valid throughout appointment.

2. Candidates must be United States citizens at time of appointment.

3. Candidates are not eligible for appointment until they reach their eighteenth birthday

Special Patrol Officer

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

This position involves responsibility for maintaining order and providing security in public buildings, schools and courtrooms. The incumbent performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet the minimum qualification at time of application. Either:

(A) Retired member of a police or sheriff’s office in New York State; OR

(B) Retired member of the division of state police; OR (C) Retired former corrections, parole or probation officer in New York State.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Special Patrol Officers may not carry or possess firearms while on duty unless authorized to do so by the Appointing Authority and a license has been issued pursuant to Section 400.00 of Penal Law (Section 2.10.37 of Criminal Procedure Law). Where possession of the license is required, eligibility for and continued possession of the license is required for employment.

Court Attendant

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

Performs nonjudicial services for the courts, as well as, for trial justices and judges who preside over these courts. Under the direct supervision of judicial officers and/or higher ranking law enforcement officer, an employee in this class expedites legal proceedings in various courts by performing nonjudicial remedies, the scope of which is maintaining decorum in courtrooms and judges’ chambers, expediting a flow of willing and able citizens to serve as jurors, and once juries have been drawn, escorting jurors to and from court, and preventing access to jurors when the latter are not in court; and providing information to the public about legal proceedings. Assignments are reviewed through personal observation by judges or their assigned subordinates. An employee in this class exercises no supervision. Does related work as required.

Senior Clerk – Part Time

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

Employees in this position are primarily responsible for the performance of clerical and other related office tasks that require the exercise of more than ordinary judgment. The tasks involved in this position are performed by employees experienced in clerical and office-related work. Some of the duties performed are the same as those performed by Clerks, except, they are performed by more experienced employees who are capable of independent decision-making and leadership in handling more complex clerical details and routine office tasks. The position may involve contact with the public on routine matters.

The work is done under direct observation and review by an immediate supervisor. An employee in this class may also supervise the work of others. The incumbent does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications at time of application. Either:

(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's Degree in secretarial science, word processing, office technologies, office management, or a closely related field; OR

(B) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma AND two (2) years of clerical experience; OR

(C) Four (4) years of experience, as stated above.

Correctional Services Aid – Part Time (two positions)

- Commissary Clerk / Law Librarian

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

This position exists in the County Sheriff’s Office Correctional Facility, and involves responsibility for scheduling inmates use of the library, researching and acquiring library material requested by inmates. Assists trustee inmates assigned to various phases of the program. Works under the general supervision of a Sergeant in charge of Programs. The incumbent performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications at time of application. Either:

(A) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma; OR

(B) Two (2) years of clerical or customer service experience.
