According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Derrick O'Meara, who is the Director of the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, an 18 year old Town of Floyd man has been arrested for having sexual contact with a female child under the age of 15.

The Child Advocacy Center received a report of the alleged sexual encounter on February 28th, 2022, and Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Melissa Bolton, assigned to the Child Advocacy Center, was assigned to the case. The investigation revealed that the incident occurred in the Town of Floyd on February 22nd, 2022.

The 18 year old man, whose name is not being released due to possible Youthful Offender status, was arrested on March 4th, 2022, by Sergeant Bolton and Rome Police Department Detective Alex Sypniewski, who is also assigned to the Child Advocacy Center. The 18 year old was charged with Criminal Sexual Act 2nd degree, a Class D Felony. The 18 year old was arraigned in Central Arraignment Court at the Oneida County Correctional Facility and he was released in his own recognizance.

An Order of Protection has been issued on behalf of the victim and services have been offered to the child through the Child Advocacy Center.
