According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on March 12, 2022, at approximately 6:36 PM Oneida County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a personal injury motor vehicle accident on State Route 233 in the Town of Westmoreland.

Deputies determined that Christian Kelly 36, of Lee Center, was operating a 2001 Nissan Xterra southerly on Route 233 when he crossed into the northbound lane of traffic and struck a roadside reflector, before coming to rest on its side in a ditch. It was reported by witnesses that Kelly fled the scene on foot. A short time later Kelly was located in a wooded area not far from the accident scene. Kelly was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital via Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corp for cold exposure and complaints of body pain.

The Oneida County Sheriffs DWI Unit responded to the scene and Kelly was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and issued several other traffic summonses returnable to Westmoreland Town Court.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Westmoreland Fire Department, Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corp, and Kirkland Police Department.
