According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on 03/28/2022, at approximately 09:05 PM, an adult male sustained minor injuries after a personal injury motor vehicle accident that occurred on State Route 5, in the Town of Vernon.

Carolann Chaires-Mathews, 24, of Munnsville, was driving a 2016 Ford Escape, westbound on State Route 5 in the Town of Vernon, following a 2021 Toyota Corolla being operated by, Brynn Mcallister, 22, of Oneida. Mcallister was slowing for a vehicle that was pulling into a driveway when Chaires-Mathews struck the back of Mcallister’s vehicle. Chase Becraft, 23, of Oneida, was laying in the back seat of Mcallister’s vehicle not wearing a seatbelt, and Becraft sustained an abdomen injury as a result of the crash. Becraft was evaluated by Vineall Ambulance and then transported by Vineall Ambulance to Oneida City Hospital. Chaires-Matthews and Becraft were both issued tickets returnable to Vernon Town Court at a later date.
