According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert Maciol; On May 5, 2022, at about 142 PM, Deputies responded to Beacon Light Rd near Patrick Rd in the Town of Verona for a reported one car property damage motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, Deputies determined that Peter Roberts (66), of Cleveland, NY, was operating a yellow 2016 Blue Bird Camden Central School District bus #157 Northeast on Beacon Light Rd. Due to unsafe speed and failure to maintain lane, Roberts’ passenger side rear tires exited the eastern shoulder of the roadway into the loose gravel as he attempted to maneuver a sharp left curve in the roadway causing the vehicle to lose control. Roberts’ vehicle then re-entered the roadway and crossed the double solid center lines, as the rear end of the bus entered a slide rotating towards the front of the bus. Roberts’ vehicle then exited the western shoulder of the roadway and struck a tree with the rear passenger side as the front passenger corner struck the front porch of a condemned residence, before coming to rest with heavy damage.

Roberts was evaluated and released on scene without injury. Roberts was issued a citation for speed not reasonable and prudent due back to Verona Town Court at a later date.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by Verona Fire Department, Oneida Indian Nation Police, and Rocker’s Heavy Automotive Rescue.
