According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on July 14, 2022, at about 6:37 PM, Deputies responded to the intersection of State Route 365 and State Route 31 in the town of Verona for a reported two car personal injury motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, Deputies determined that Nicholas Annese (73) of Rome, NY was operating a Grey Kia SUV attempting to make a left turn onto State Route 365 Eastbound from State Route 31 with a steady green light arrow indicating his right of way. Nicholas’ vehicle was then struck on the front passenger side bumper by a Blue Chevy Sedan operated by a Kailin Marrero (18) of New Hartford, NY. Kailin was traveling Westbound on State Route 365 when she approached a steady red light at the intersection at Route 365 and Route 31. Kailin was unable to stop in time for the steady red light and attempted to swerve away from traffic attempting to turn onto and cross State Route 365. Kailin was unable to prevent the collision and the front passenger quarter panel of Kailin’s vehicle struck Nicholas’ vehicle. Kailin’s vehicle came to rest on the northern shoulder of State Route 365 just past the intersection and Nicholas’ vehicle came to rest in the intersection. Kailin complained of pain in her right elbow and ribs. Kailin was transported to Oneida Health via Vineall Ambulance to be evaluated for her injuries. Nicholas and his passenger, Susan Annese, were uninjured.

Kailin was issued a citation for Failure to Stop at a Red Light returnable to the town of Verona at a later date.
