Today at the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, 12 local youth participated in a long-time tradition of attending the New York State Sheriffs' Institute & Summer Camp in Penn Yan, NY.

Campers will spend the week enjoying campfires, fishing, hiking, sports, arts and crafts, demonstrations, and making new friends.

All campers also received a new pillow and sleeping bag courtesy of the Oneida County Sheriff's Law Enforcement Foundation.

The Sheriffs’ Summer Camp is a program of the New York State Sheriffs’ Institute, Inc. The Sheriffs’ Institute was established in 1979 to assist the office of the Sheriff in advancing education in the criminal justice community, and supporting victims of crime and their families.

The camp is made possible with financial support from honorary members of the Sheriff’s Institute. The camp sees over 900 children ages 9 to 12 at no charge.
