An inmate at the Oneida County Jail has been charged with criminal mischief and attempted escape.

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on August 9, 2022, at about 11:45 AM while on Oriskany Blvd. in the City of Utica, an inmate who was being transported by Sheriff’s Correction Officers from Utica City Court back to the jail kicked the widow out of the transport van and tried to escape through the window while the van was moving. Corrections officers stopped the van and were able to prevent the inmate from climbing out. The inmate had been transported to Utica City Court earlier that morning and was being brought back to the jail when he tried to escape.

Sheriff’s Investigators charged 24 year old Idris Brown of Utica with criminal mischief in the third degree and attempted escape in the first degree, both are class E felonies. Brown was arraigned in Centralized Arraignment Court and is being held in the Oneida County Jail.

He will return to Utica City Court on a later date.
