A Holland Patent man has died as a result of injuries he sustained when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on Trenton Road Saturday evening.

Deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident at about 7:00 PM at the intersection of Trenton Road and John Street in the Town of Trenton. When they arrived they found the operator of a 2002 Honda motorcycle, 29 year old Dakota Safin had sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. Deputies performed CPR until medical personnel arrived on the scene but could not revive Safin. Safin was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a witness, Safin was traveling South on Trenton Road at a high rate of speed. Mary Fanelli 57 of Barneveld was traveling North in her 2020 Ford F-150 pickup truck and was turning left onto John Street when the two collided. Fanelli had two passengers. John Fanelli 58, also of Barneveld and a 6 year old. No one in Fanelli’s vehicle was injured.

The preliminary investigation indicates that intoxication and cell phone use are not contributing factors in the crash. Speed appears to be a contributing factor.

The crash is being reconstructed by the Sheriff’s Accident Reconstruction Unit.

The investigation is ongoing. No tickets have been issued.
