According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Derrick O’Meara, who is the director of the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, a Rome man has been arrested for having sexual intercourse with a female child under the age of 13.

In June of 2022, the Child Advocacy Center received a report alleging that 58-year-old Jerry Studer had engaged in sexual contact with a female child over the course of the past two years. Oneida County Sheriff’s Investigator Tyler Barnes, assigned to the Child Advocacy Center was assigned to the case. As a result of the subsequent investigation, Studer was indicted by the Oneida County Grand Jury on charges of Predatory Sex Assault Against a Child, a class A-II Felony, Rape 1st, a class B Felony, and Sexual Abuse 1st, a class D Felony. Studer was arrested by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Unit, members of the US Marshalls Service, and members of the Rome Police Department Special Investigations Unit on Thursday, September 22nd, 2022.

Studer was arraigned on the charges in Oneida County Court on Friday, September 23rd, 2022. Studer was remanded to the Oneida County Jail with no bail. An order of protection was issued by the court and services have been offered to the victim by the Child Advocacy Center.
