According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, an inmate at the correctional facility has been charged after he assaulted two officers. On September 22, 2022, 29 year old Raheem Thompson of Utica punched an officer several times in the head and upper body. The officer was treated at a local hospital and released. Then on October 3, 2022, Thompson assaulted another officer with a spork, which is a combination fork/spoon eating utensil and is made of plastic. That officer was also treated at a local hospital and released.

The injuries to the officers did not meet the Penal Law definition of physical injury which is required for an assault charge. Therefore Thompson was charged with two counts of Attempted Assault in the Second Degree, which is a Class E Felony. Thompson was arraigned last night in CAP Court and is being held in the correctional facility on unrelated charges. He will return to court at a later date.
