According to Sheriff Robert Maciol, on October 22, 2022, at about 7:15 p.m. there was a two-car accident at the intersection of State Route 365 and Willow Street in the Town of Verona.

As investigated and reported by Deputy Villarreal, Mateo Irizarra, age 21, from the City of Rome, was operating a 2009 Nissan Sedan on State Route 365 in the Town of Verona and failed to stop at a steady red light. As Irizarra proceeded into the intersection of State Route 365, he collided with a 2020 Chevy Pickup Truck operated by Paul Boucher, age 34, from the City of Rome, on the front driver side of Boucher's Pickup Truck, causing heavy damage to both vehicles.

Irizarra and his passenger, Leah Sutton, age 22, from the City of Utica, were transported to St. Elizabeth's Hospital for further evaluation. Boucher and his passenger, Jamel Briant, age 45, from the City of Rome, were transported to Rome Memorial hospital by a family member for further evaluation.

None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

Traffic summons regarding this accident are pending the completion of the investigation.
