Sheriff Issues Second Reminder About Upcoming Civil Service Test for Correction Officer

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, the next civil service exam for the position of Correction Officer will be held on December 10th, 2022 and all applications from those interested in taking the exam must be received at the Oneida County Department of Personnel by 4:30 pm on Friday November 4th, 2022 and there is a $25 fee to apply for the exam. The eligible list, established as a result of this examination, will be used to fill vacancies within the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division.

In order to be eligible to be appointed to this position, candidates must be a legal resident of Oneida, Herkimer, Lewis, Madison, Oswego, or Otsego Counties for a least (1) month immediately preceding the date of appointment. Candidates must also possess either a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma, a valid NYS driver’s license, be at least 18 years old at the time of appointment, and pass a thorough background process.

Starting salary for this position is $ 44,030 and will be increased to $ 48,922 upon successful completion of basic corrections training or after successfully completing six (6) months of employment in the bargaining unit. The position also includes the NYS Retirement Plan and additional benefits.
