According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, four Deputies were exposed to fentanyl as a result of an overdose investigation.

Shortly after 4:30pm this afternoon, the Sheriff’s Office responded to Brown Road in the outside district of Rome for a female who had overdosed. Deputies located the victim and to assist EMS, they carried her down a flight of stairs to where emergency medical personnel treated her. She was subsequently transported to an area hospital for treatment.

A short time after the victim was transported, the Deputies began to experience symptoms of fentanyl exposure that included severe headache and dizziness. One of the Deputies had to have two doses of narcan administered to them. Two of the Deputies were transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital and are currently being evaluated and treated and are expected to be released this evening. The other two deputies were evaluated and treated at the scene.

The investigation into the incident is continuing by the Sheriff’s Office.
