Two car Personal injury accident leads to Vernon man being arrested for Felony DWI.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on November 04, 2022 at approximately 11:48 P.M. Deputy’s responded to a two car personal injury motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of State Route 233 and Cider Street in the Town of Westmoreland.

Deputy’s determined that, Christopher Smith of Vernon, was traveling south on State Route 233 in a Chevrolet pickup when he collided with the rear-end of a Nissan sedan, driven by Alexis Cauthen of Rome. Westmoreland Fire Department and Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance members responded to the scene and Cauthen was transported to St. Elizabeth’s hospital with minor injuries.

Deputy’s determined that Smith was at fault for the accident and that he was driving while intoxicated by alcohol at the time of the accident. Smith was charged with Felony DWI, Felony aggravated unlicensed operation, operating a vehicle without an interlock device, and several other traffic violations.

Smith was held at the Oneida County Law Enforcement building to appear in front of the Westmoreland Town Court to face the charges on Saturday morning.
