According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Derrick O'Meara, who is the Director of the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, a Rome woman has been arrested for having inappropriate contact with an underage male child.

The investigation began on July 15, 2022, when members of the Child Advocacy Center were notified that a 16-year-old male child had been subjected to inappropriate contact by 25-year-old Paula Amo. The case was assigned to Sheriff’s Investigator Mark R. Chrysler.

Investigator Chrysler’s investigation revealed that Amo had subjected the child to acts of lewd and inappropriate sexual behavior on July 11, 2022, while at a residence in the City of Rome.

At the conclusion of the investigation, the case was turned over to the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office for Grand Jury consideration.

On November 30, 2022, an Oneida County Grand Jury convened and later indicted Amo on one count of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, which is a Class D Felony. An Arrest Warrant was issued for Amo by Oneida County Court Judge Robert Bauer.

On December 6, 2022, Amo turned herself in to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Warrants Unit and was arraigned at Oneida County Court in front of Honorable Robert Bauer on the charge. Amo was released on her own recognizance, with supervised release conditions set in place by Oneida County Probation.

Services have been offered to the victim by the Child Advocacy Center and an order of protection was issued on behalf of the child.
