An inmate at the Oneida County Correctional Facility was charged after he assaulted an corrections officer.

According to Sheriff Robert Maciol, Correction Officers entered the cell of Inmate Melvin Cruz-Raison this morning to escort him to the medical unit. When they entered the cell Cruz-Raison attacked the officers and was able to grab the Taser of one of the officer’s holster and he pointed it at the officers. The officers were able to disarm Cruz-Raison before he could deploy the Taser. One officer was injured in the fight and was taken to a local hospital where he was treated a released.

Cruz-Raison (28) has been charged with Assault in the Second Degree a class D felony, Criminal Possession of a Weapon Third Degree a Class D Felony, and Menacing in the First Degree a Class E Felony.

Cruz is being held at the correctional facility awaiting arraignment.
