According to Sheriff Robert Maciol, Deputies responded to a 2 Car Personal Injury MVA at the intersection of Route 233 and Route 5 in the town of Westmoreland on April 14, 2023, at approximately 12:23PM.

Makayla Thomas (19) of Utica, NY was operating a white in color Nissan sedan and traveling southbound on Route 233 when she approached the intersection with Route 5 and started to make a left turn. Makayla failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic while making a left turn in the intersection and struck a black in color pick up truck head on. This pick up truck was operated by Evelina Sheridan of Syracuse NY. Both vehicles sustained heavy front end damage. Sheridan signed off on medical treatment on scene. Thomas was transported to Saint Elizabeth's Medical Center by Central Oneida County Ambulance to be evaluated for the complaint of possible injury to her upper-arm/collar-bone area.

Thomas was issued a traffic ticket for failure to yield to on-coming traffic while making a left turn at an intersection. This ticket is returnable to the Town of Westmoreland Court on a later date.

Deputies were assisted on scene by the NYSP, COC Ambulance, and Westmoreland Fire.
