During Traffic Safety Awareness Week members of the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with the New York State Department Of Transportation, participated in an "Operation Hard Hat" detail in the Town of Trenton, on April 20, 2023.

The detail is aimed at addressing work zone traffic safety violations that pose a danger to the DOT workers who are working along the roadways. A member of the Sheriff's Office is present within the work zone dressed as a highway maintenance worker to identify drivers committing traffic offenses within the work zone. These violations include speeding in a work zone, failure to move over, cell phone usage, and other violations as well.

The detail ran for about four hours and Road Patrol Deputies issued a total of 22 traffic tickets.
