According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, four people were sent to the hospital following a single car motor vehicle accident on St Rt 26/365 Erie Blvd E. exit, in the City of Rome.
On 05/06/2023 at about 11:30 PM, Deputies responded to the incident and determined Lucas Nichols, 18, of Utica, was operating a blue Honda sedan in an easterly direction on St Rt 26/365. As Nichols took the Rome exit, he lost control of the vehicle, subsequently striking a guide rail causing heavy damage to the vehicle. Nichols, along with three other passengers, were transported by Amcare Ambulance to Rome Hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Due to the age of the three passengers, their names will not be released.
Following the investigation, Nichols was issued a citation for speed not reasonable and prudent, returnable to Rome City Court at a later date. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Amcare Ambulance, Rome Fire Department, and Mike Jr’s towing.
