As a result of two separate inmate overdoses over the past week, the Oneida County Correctional Facility has been locked down today while members of the Sheriff’s Office S.E.R.T. (Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team) conduct an intensive search of the various units inside the facility. The inmate that overdosed on Tuesday evening was treated by jail and medical staff at the facility, was then transported to the hospital where he is currently receiving treatment. The inmate that overdosed earlier today was treated by jail and medical staff at the facility, transported to the hospital, subsequently released, and has been returned to the facility. It is not yet known what substances the inmates overdosed on and both were quickly administered Narcan by jail and medical staff. The investigation into what the substances are and how they entered the facility is currently ongoing. During this afternoon’s jail search, numerous items of contraband were located and secured. The investigation into identifying what these substances are and how they entered the facility are also ongoing. During today’s search, a member of the Sheriff’s Office S.E.R.T. (Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team) experienced symptoms of a drug exposure. They were immediately administered Narcan by another S.E.R.T. member and then seen by the jail’s medical staff. They were subsequently taken to the hospital where they are currently being treated. During today’s incident and subsequent lock down, the members of the Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division and S.E.R.T. were assisted by Wellpath Medical Staff, the Sheriff's Office Road Patrol, Criminal Investigation Unit, and the Sheriff’s ID Unit.
