According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol, on Friday, May 26, 2023, at about 1:01 A.M., Deputies responded to a reported motor vehicle accident on State Route 49 in the City of Rome.

Once on scene Deputies determined, Michael J. Santiago Oliveras, 24, of Rome, was operating a grey 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in a Westerly direction on State Route 49 when he struck a deer.

Santiago Oliveras was transported by AmCare Ambulance to Rome Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by AmCare Ambulance and Rome Fire Department.
