According to Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Derrick O’Meara, who is the director of the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, a Utica man has been arrested for having subjected a female child under the age of 11 to sexual contact.

The Child Advocacy Center received a report alleging that Matthew J. Laufer, age 33, had engaged in sexual contact with a female child in March of 2022. Oneida County Sheriff’s Investigator Nicholas Dean, assigned to the Child Advocacy Center was assigned to the case. As a result of the subsequent investigation, Laufer was indicted by the Oneida County Grand Jury on charges of Sexual Abuse 1st degree, a class D Felony, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, which is a class A Misdemeanor.

Laufer was arrested by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Unit, the Utica Police Department Warrants Unit, members of the NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force, and Oneida County Probation on Thursday, June 1st, 2023.

Laufer was arraigned on the charges in Oneida County Court on Friday, June 2nd, 2023. Laufer was remanded to the Oneida County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 Cash Bail. Laufer was released upon posting bail.

An order of protection was issued by the court and services have been offered to the victim by the Child Advocacy Center.
