On August 4, 2023, at about 3:47 pm, Oneida County Sheriff's deputies responded to Hillsboro Rd. in the Town of Camden for a reported motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian.

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, the accident occurred on Hillsboro Rd. just east of the Howd Rd. intersection. Responding deputies were able to determine that 30 year old James R. Howard of Camden was driving in a westerly direction on Hillsboro Rd. when he left the road. As he did his vehicle struck 68 year old Kathleen MacArthur from Camden and her small dog that she was walking with on the north side of Hillsboro Rd. Howard's vehicle came to rest in the ditch off the northern side of the road. Camden Ambulance and Camden Fire/ Rescue also responded and MacArthur was pronounced deceased at the scene. MacArthur's dog was also killed as a result of the incident. Camden Fire remained on scene as the road was closed during the sheriff's deputies investigation. Hillsboro Rd. was re-opened to normal traffic at 7:15pm.

No tickets have been issued at this time and the accident is still under investigation.
