According to the Oneida County Sheriff, Robert

Maciol, on Saturday, August 12th, at approximately

4:00 P.M, Deputies responded to the area of State Route 26 and East Ava Road, in the Town of

Ava for a two car Motor Vehicle Personal Injury accident.

After an investigation, it was determined that Frank Mellace, 91 year old of Rome, was traveling east attempting to cross Route 26, while Rochelle A. Pfeiffer 62 year old of Boonville, and a passenger was traveling north on Route 26, It was determined that Frank was attempting to cross Route 26 in an eastern direction, but failed to yield the right of way while entering the roadway, when Frank entered the roadway and failed to yield the right of way, resulting in Rochelle's vehicle colliding with Frank's vehicle causing major damages. Rochelle was transported to Rome Memorial Hospital Vie Boonville ambulance for none life threatening injuries, Frank was transported to St. Elizabeths Hospital for none life threatening injuries.

Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by the West Leyden Fire department, West Leyden Ambulance, AmCare Ambulance, and Boonville Ambulance.

Frank was issued a traffic citation returnable to Ava Town Court at a later date and time.
