According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert Maciol, Sheriff's Deputies are currently on scene of a Personal Injury Motor Vehicle Accident on State Route 20 in Sangerfield.

On 11/18/23, Deputies were called to the scene shortly before 6:30 PM. Following the investigation, Deputies determined Scott Nelson (age 61), of Gardiner NY, was operating a Gray 2021 Ford Ranger in an easterly direction on Route 20. Nelson attempted a U-turn on the highway and was struck by a 2007 Mack dump truck, operated by Merton Duffy (age 70), of Chittenango NY, who was also traveling eastbound. Subsequent to the collision, the dump truck overturned, spilling corn throughout the roadway, before coming to a rest in the westbound lane/shoulder area. Nelson and his passenger, Kimberly Nelson (age 60), also of Gardiner NY, were not injured in the collision. Duffy was transported by Central Oneida County Ambulance to Wynn Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Nelson was issued traffic tickets returnable to Sangerfield Town Court at a later date.

Sheriff's Deputies were assisted on scene by the Waterville Fire Department, Central Oneida County Ambulance, Clinton Collision, and NYS DOT.

Please avoid the area as crews are still on scene attempting to remove the dump truck and corn from the roadway.
