Motor vehicle accident leads to the arrest of two Utica men.

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on December 9th, 2023, at approximately 02:21 A.M. Deputies responded to a personal injury motor vehicle accident that occurred at a residence on Utica St, in the Town of Kirkland.

Deputies determined that Muhidin Mukoma, age 20, of Utica, and his passenger, Abdullahi Omar, age 21, of Utica were traveling north on Brimfield St in a 2020 Kia when Mukoma failed to stop at the stop sign and traveled across Utica St, before colliding with two, unoccupied motor vehicles parked in the driveway of a residence. Clinton Fire Department and Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene and Mukoma had signed off while Omar had refused treatment. Mukoma's and Omar's injuries appeared to be minor.

Deputies determined that Mukoma was at fault for the accident and that he was driving while intoxicated by alcohol at the time of the accident. Mukoma was charged with DWI and several other traffic violations.

A short time later deputies were trying to conduct an inventory search of the vehicle and Omar had continuously tried to interfere with the deputies duties. Omar was later charged with Obstructing Governmental Administration and Resisting Arrest.

Mukoma was later released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Kirkland Court at a later date.

Omar was held at the Oneida County Correctional facility pending arraignment at CAP Court on 12/9/2023 at 9:00 A.M.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by the Clinton Fire Department, COCVAC Ambulance, and Clinton Collision.
