According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on December 09, 2023, at 4:50 AM, Deputies responded to 11359 State Route 26 in the Town of Ava for a reported single-car personal injury motor vehicle accident. At that time, 911 dispatch had also advised that the vehicle had rolled over with driver entrapment.

On scene, Deputies determined that Dorothy Sherboneau (36) of Canastota, NY, was operating a gray 2012 Ford four door sedan South on State Route 26. Due to unknown circumstances, Sherboneau's vehicle left the roadway off the right shoulder, entered the ditch, and struck a dirt embankment. Sherboneau's vehicle then overturned, colliding with a utility pole and shearing it off. The vehicle eventually came to rest on its rooftop along the western shoulder of the roadway, approximately 250 feet from where it had initially exited. Sherboneau escaped the vehicle before the 1st responder's arrival, although the vehicle sustained extensive damages.

Sherboneau was transported to Wynn Hospital by West Leyden Ambulance for several complaints of pain in her head, neck, and shoulder area.

The accident is still under investigation at this time. Currently, no citations have been issued.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted on the scene by the New York State Police, West Leyden Fire Department, West Leyden Ambulance Company, Municipal Commission of Boonville, and Clayton's Auto.
