This morning, the Sheriff’s Office placed a wreath on the grave of Deputy Sheriff Charles J. Kammerlohr in honor of all deceased members of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, both in the line of duty deaths and those of natural causes. Placing a wreath on the grave during the holiday season is a beautiful way to honor and remember the lives they lived, the holidays they missed while working at the Sheriff’s Office, and the sacrifices they made while keeping Oneida County and its residents safe.

Deputy Kammerlohr was the first member of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office killed in the line of duty by gunfire on July 8th, 1921 while apprehending bootleggers in the City of Utica.

This morning’s ceremony was at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Utica.
