According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol, On January 31, 2024 at approximately 9:00 AM Oneida County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Oneida County Correctional Facility for a reported contraband complaint.

Deputies determined that Robert Collins Jr. 28, of Utica, had possession of marijuana in his cell, which is considered prison contraband.

A Correction Officer first detected the odor of marihuana and then notified the canine assigned to the Correctional Facilty. K-9 “Bo” and his handler located the area where the contraband was and it was then secured by Correction Officers and the Road Patrol was notified.

Collins was issued an appearance ticket by Deputies returnable to Whitestown Court on a later date.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Investigation Unit also assisted in this investigation.
