According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert Maciol, on February 12, 2024, at about 9:27 AM, Deputies responded to Prospect St in the Town of Vernon for a reported two car personal injury motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, Deputies determined that David Ayers of Poland, NY was operating a green Ford F250 pickup Eastbound on Prospect St. Due to failure to keep right, a 2021 white Honda Civic operating Westbound by Douglas Arnold of Oneida, NY crossed the center double solid yellow lines into the Eastbound lane of traffic striking Ayer's pickup head-on causing the pick-up to overturn onto the passenger side and heavy damage to both vehicles.

Ayers was transported to Oneida Health Hospital for chest pain and other minor injuries, Arnold was transported to Syracuse Upstate Hospital by Mercy Flight Helicopter for head injuries. No citations have been issued at this time.

Prospect St was closed during the investigation and has since been reopened to traffic.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by the Verona Fire Department, Oneida Castle Fire Department, Vineall Ambulance, Oneida Indian Nation Police Department, NYS Department of Transportation, City of Oneida Police Department, City of Oneida Fire Department, Town of Verona DPW, City of Oneida DPW, Mercy Flight, Andy's Towing, and Kinney's Kar Kare.
