According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on May 16, 2024, at about 6:20 p.m., Deputies responded to Millers Woods Road in the Town of Boonville for a reported single-car motor vehicle accident with two occupants sustaining personal injuries.

On the scene, Deputies determined that James Carr (38) of Boonville, NY, was operating a 2005 Jeep Wrangler Southbound on Millers Woods Rd. A deer entered the roadway unexpectedly. Carr attempted to avoid the deer by swerving and abruptly and changing lanes. Due to excessive speeds and wet roads, he could not maintain control of the vehicle. The vehicle exited the shoulder of the roadway on the west side, striking a tree. The vehicle came to rest on the West shoulder facing Northbound.

Carr was treated on the scene for complaints of head and leg pain and then transported by Boonville Ambulance to Wynn Hospital for further evaluation.

Passenger Erica Clifford (36) of Cold Brook, NY, was initially pinned in the vehicle and had to be removed by members of Boonville Fire. Once removed, Clifford was transported by Mercy Flight to SUNY Upstate Hospital in Syracuse for a compound fracture to her right leg, along with several other lacerations and complaints of pain to the right hip, knee, and heel.

It was determined that Carr was operating on a revoked driver's license at the time of the accident. Carr was issued three citations related to the incident, which are returnable to the Town of Boonville Court at a later date.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted on the scene by Boonville Fire Company, Boonville Ambulance, Mercy Flight, and Grower's Collision & Towing of Boonville.
