According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, the accident occurred at approximately 07:20 AM on Rt.12 North Bound involving three vehicles that had Rt.12 shut down for a brief time. Whitney J. Bourgeois 30, and Jill M. Paschke 44 were both stopped on Rt. 12 behind a stopped school bus when Renee M. Marcellus 70, failed to stop and struck the vehicles from behind. Marcellus' vehicle then skidded sideways and rolled over into the ditch from the impact. The school bus was not involved in the accident. Marcellus was then extricated from her vehicle and transported to Wynn Hospital for chest pain and left leg pain. Marcellus was treated at the hospital for none life threatening injuries. Paschke was also transported to Wynn Hospital for back pain and neck pain. Paschke was treated at the Wynn for none life threatening injuries. Bourgeois was not injured during the accident. After further investigation into the accident, it was learned that Marcellus did not pay attention to the roadway and did not see the two vehicles and school bus that were stopped ahead of her. Marcellus was issued multiple traffic citations returnable to Boonville Town Court on a later date.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Boonville Fire Department, Boonville Ambulance, and New York State Police.
