According to the Oneida County Sheriff, Robert Maciol, on September 4th, 2024, at approximately 3:20 AM Deputies responded to a reported personal injury motor vehicle accident that occurred on Route 5 in the Town of Kirkland.

Upon arrival, it was discovered by Deputies that Michael Sprague, 56, of Clinton, was operating a 2014 Dodge Ram pick-up truck Eastbound on Route 5, when Sprague failed to maintain his lane and left the roadway on the southern side, crossing a metal fence and went down an embankment. The vehicle came to rest in a shallow creek. Sprague's vehicle sustained heavy damage as a result of the incident. Passengers in the vehicle were Richard Walton, 31, of Rome, and Nena Loveland, 33, of Rome. Sprague reported no injuries. Walton and Loveland suffered minor injuries and were both transported to Wynn Hospital.

The crash is still under investigation at this time.
