According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on 5-13-18 at about 1620 hrs, a Sheriff Deputy attempted to stop an ATV operating on Obrien Rd T/Forestport. The ATV took off on the Sheriff Deputy proceeding south on Obrien Rd. The Sheriff Deputy attempted to catch up with the ATV and quickly learned the ATV was operating at a high rate of speed and recklessly passing other vehicles. The Sheriff Deputy discontinued the attempt less than a mile from where it started. Several local residents assisted with identifying where the ATV came from. An investigation led to identifying the ATV, the driver and the passenger. The driver Corey Cook, 20 of Poland and the passenger Catania Murabito, 21 of Marcy turned themselves into the Sheriff Deputy at short time later. Cook was issued 5 tickets listed below and Murabito 1 ticket listed below. These tickets are returnable to the Town of Forestport court on a later date.

Cook: reckless operation, failure to comply, operating on roadway, no helmet and unregistered vehicle.

Murabito: no helmet

The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public that operating ATV’s recreationally on the roadway in Oneida County is illegal.
